"So, in other words. You don't care if you die," she said.

"I never have, and I never will. Death means nothing to me. If you dont mind me asking, why do you care so much about my welfare?" He still did not turn to look at her.

"And why is this any of your concern," she said.

"I could ask you the same," he pointed out. "In fact, you're prying more than I am, if I am not mistaken.

Destiny snorted. "Listen, just because someone for once in your life wants to show a little kindness, doesn't give you the right to dismiss them right like that," she said. She put her ears back a bit, not all the way, but enough to show she was getting annoyed.

"My apologies." He tended to try and be more polite with mares than other stallions. "It was not my intention to set you off. Let us start with a clean slate shall we? Do you have a name?"

"My name is Destiny," she said. "And you might be...?"

"That, my dear, is up to you. I have no name. Call me what you will. Most know me simply as The Nameless. That is, that is what the humans call me."

"My friends would never call you that. I live with a small group of humans. They're called Indians. Is it alright if I call you Shadow," she asked. She did not mean to be rude. She hope he didn't think she was.

"I've already granted you permission to call me what you wish. And, to the contrary, i believe the white humans adopted the name from these so called Indians. I do not believe either of them mean it disrespectfully. If they do, well..." He cut himself off, deciding that continuing that sentence would be treading on thin ice.

Destiny sighed. "Well, if you want to ever come to the village, you're more than welcomed to," she said.

"Humans are not my cup of tea. Thank you anyway. I have learned the hard way that staying away from them is in my best interest."

"I don't want to force you to change your mind. It's up to you how you view them. They're not all bad. The Indians only ride me once in a while. I'm aloud to wander as far as I want," Destiny said. She looked over at the stallion. This stallion seemed to have a shell around him, protecting him and his thoughts. She knew it was hard to show others a new view on live and things. Destiny hated ever to push someone. She hated forcing other to change their ways.

Shadow, as he was now called, had nothing to say. Deciding he could go no further today, he walked slowly to the base of a pine tree, cleared the ground of snow, and layed down under the thick branches. He still faced away from her, but his ears seemed magnetized to them.

Destiny followed him, but kept her distance. She went to the other side of the tree. She laid down near the trunk were there was very little snow. She lowered her head as well. She sighed as she settled down. There was something about Shadow. She couldn't stop thinking about him. She didn't know why. He was a stubborn stallion, who cared for no one, not even himself. She glanced over at him every now and then.
