A large, black Andalusian stallion pulled himself up the steep mountainside, his dark pelt contrasting sharply with the crisp white snow. He had obviously been pushing himself, for he was perspiring heavily, his leg muscles were rather taught, and his nostrils flared with each breath. He had been sweating so much that the sun reflected vividly off his coat. Almost there, he reminded himself

Near by, a bay mustang mare was searching for food. She had a white star on her forehead. Her name was Destiny. She was a horse from the Indian Village. She had marks of paint on her body. She heard the sound of snow crunching under someone else's hooves. She wonder who would be wandering this far in this deep of snow. She went of to explore.

The stallion's ears rose and his movements stopped completely. His hightened sense of hearing told him that he was no longer alone. He raised his head and sniffed the air. He smelled another presence. His ears scanned the surrounding area for any noise. He heard only footsteps in the snow, and decided it was best to keep moving.

Destiny started to move quicker. Then she saw this big black stallion going up a huge hill. She whinnied a friendly welcome, hoping he meant no harm. Destiny walked slower as she headed toward him.

The stallion gave a mental groan, as he was hoping to avoid contact. Instead, he decided to pretend he didnt hear her and kept trudging through the snow. He didnt know how much longer he could keep it up, though. The fatigue was getting to him.

Destiny snorted and stamped her hooves. She whinnied again. "You're never going to make it to the top by the time it snows again," she said.

The stallion stopped in his tracks and sighed, not turning to face her. "Thank you for your warning, but I think I will take my chances. I have nothing else to occupy my time, so if it snows, so be it." And he kept walking.

Destiny snorted, "Stallions. You're all a like. You all think you can take on anything." Destiny has dwelt with these kinds of stallions many times. She was as stubborn as a mule sometimes.

"It is not that. I honestly don't believe I can. I just do not care. Why, may I ask, do you?" As he said this, he stopped and finally turned his head to look at her. His hair covered most of his face so only his snout and muzzle were visible. His breaths were still drawn and ragged as well. His ears, it seemed, were permanently perked forward, and he seemed to be watching her through his forelock, awaiting an answer.

"Well, I'll tell you this. I'm not like other mare," she said. She snorted. She hated stallions with an attitude. But there was something a little bit charming and mysterious about this stallion.

"I do not believe that answered my question," he stated simply. He really wished he had not made so much noise. Company was such a nuisance. "I suppose it does not matter. Regardless of your reasoning, I will continue. Join me if you wish." He turned back to his path and continued, more quickly now that he had a little time to catch his breath. He had a notion that he would regret that last sentence.

"I'll tell you another thing. If you make it passed all this mountains anyway, you'll be caught by the humans. And there is more bad weather on the way," she said.

"That STILL does not answer my original inquiry. Just the same, thank you for the warning, but i do not plan to pass through the mountains, just make it to the top. Will you be accompanying me or not?" He prayed she would say no, but had a feeling she would not. She was slowly growing on his nerves.

"Fine, I'll go, but only part way. Don't cry to me that you can't make it up. Beside, what is the whole point of just getting to the top," she demanded.

Mentally, he groaned. He immediately regretted asking her. "Just to say that I can. And even more so, to get away. Solitude is a very kind mistress." He kept walking, but had it not been for the snow, he would have galloped ahead at the first scent of her. "I already told you, I dont think I will reach the top. I actually expect to either walk into something or step right of the edge. Snow interferes with my olfactory system."
